Andrew Fergusson has been a familiar face around the Northland Rescue Helicopter for a number of years now.

And no doubt he is familiar to plenty of Northlanders who he has helped over the years in his role as a Flight Critical Care Paramedic and Para-ACO. His path to Northland Rescue Helicopter in 2014 followed a career in the military then time with the Ambulance service.

“I have held leadership, management and clinical support roles within the ambulance sector. In addition to my clinical and SAR roles, I am currently the clinical equipment lead for Whangarei Base,” says Andrew.

Having grown up in Tutukaka and Pataua North, Andrew always had a goal of returning north and working on the Northland Rescue Choppers.

What he enjoys most about his current role is the diversity of not knowing where he will end up on any given day.

“I enjoy being able to make a difference in the community and helping people out. That’s really satisfying,” says Andrew.

Away from work Andrew enjoys surfing, riding road bikes, mountain bikes and spending time with his young family.
