Benji and Katie Raumaewa are big on giving back to the community.

The owners of Maungaturoto businesses Hillside Honey and Mānuka Essentials are one of our inaugural Grassroots Sponsors.

They have chosen to support our Northland Rescue Helicopters because they recognise that their whānau, workers or friends could need the service at any time.

Benji and his staff are out on the road constantly, racking up over 100,000 kilometres annually.

“I recognise there is always a risk of illness or injury when we are out and about and let’s face it, accidents happen whether you are driving, working the land or enjoying some leisure activities.

“Katie, myself and our children Taio, Rakaia and Alyssa, have been lucky to get to know some of the Northland Rescue Helicopter team and we hung out with them at the 2024 Northland Field Days which was really enjoyable,” says Benji.

“Their values fit with ours, as they genuinely care for people and we love the fact they are out there making a positive difference to people’s lives 24/7.

“I guess what inspired us to become an annual sponsor is that we know people who have potentially had their lives saved thanks to a Northland Rescue Chopper flight – and that could happen to any of us at any time.”

Outside of producing quality Mānuka honey, Benji and Katie were recently named the 2024 winner for the Best Beard Oil at the prestigious Beard Awards in Auckland. They also featured in a recent ANZ promotional video about rebuilding their business after losing hundreds of hives in Cyclone Gabrielle.
