Our Helicopters - HELIMED1 and HELIMED2
NEST's two helicopters (Helimed1) and (Helimed 2), are Sikorsky S-76A's. Manufactured in the United States, they have two engines and are operated by two pilots at all times, which are added safety factors when operating at night or in bad weather conditions.
Designed primarily for use in air medical (rescue), VIP transport and off-shore oil rig support roles, it's combined size, comfort, speed and reliability has seen it excel in these types of operations. Recent years have seen many air medical operators around the world upgrade to this model from their smaller, slower machines.
Size - Designed to carry two pilots, four medical attendants and two stretcher patients comfortably. Usually only two medical attendants are required, meaning on most occasions, there is room for a relative/friend to travel with the patient.
Endurance - Because the helicopter travels so fast, it is able to carry sufficient fuel for 3hrs 10min flying time (standard) or 5hrs 30min with an extra fuel tank fitted. For example, this would enable the helicopter to fly from Whangarei to Cape Reinga and back and still have enough fuel remaining to then travel to Auckland should it be decided that the patient needs to go to Auckland instead.
NEST is proud to operate the only machine of this model and capabilities in New Zealand. We are committed to continuously upgrading our aircraft's capabilities with the latest navigation equipment and safety equipment for the benefit of all Northlanders.
