New Zealand Herald, July 5th 2004

Three people are dead and two others were injured after a four-wheel-drive vehicle rolled on Muriwai beach, west of Auckland, this afternoon.

A St John Ambulance spokesman told NZPA the service received a call about 3.05pm that the vehicle had rolled and three people were seriously injured.

Ambulances and rescue helicopters were sent to the beach, 32km west of Auckland city.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter arrived to find three of the vehicle's occupants were in critical condition. All three died at the scene shortly afterwards.

The helicopter transported one person with serious injuries to Auckland Hospital, while the Northern Emergency Services Trust Rescue Helicopter transported another occupant who suffered moderate injuries to Auckland Hospital.

A police spokesman said two of the dead occupants were men and one a woman. The other two occupants were men.

All five were Asian, possibly tourists.
